Does My 2006 Chev Cobalt Factory Warranty Cover Wheel Bearings
Posted in Wheel Covers & Caps | Asked on Sep 3, 2010Hello I bought a new cobalt back in 2006 i have 78000 kms on it now and I recently had to replace both wheel bearings within 6 months of each other . I was told that my warranty had run out but I read that there is a 5 year warranty on the powertrain which would include the bearings wouldn’t it? If it does cover bearings for 5 years can I take my local mechanics bills to the dealer I bought my car from and get a refund? thanks.

I would ask for a copy of the warranty so you could see exactly what the powertrain warranty covers. Many of these extended powertrain warranties only cover items such as the transmission, drivetrain and internal engine components, and on top of that many times they only pay for the part, you have to pay the labor which can cost more than the part at times.
Try to find a copy of the contract, ask them to see a copy of the contract so you can read it for yourself. Dont take their word for it. Once i did have a dealer tell me my car was out of warranty, i proved it was not. But this was under a full bumper to bumper warranty.
The 5 year/100,000 mile warranty on General Motors vehicles covers the components of the powertrain only–the engine, transmission, and the rear differential. Wheel bearings are not a part of the drivetrain.
