If im changing the distruibtor cap and rotor, is ther a specific way i need to adjust the rotor? how should it be put on?

Im getting overcharged for a tune up so i did the spark plugs and wires myself now i just need to do the distributor cap and rotor. Maybe my car will stop jerking when i accelarate uphill.
