Does The 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Have A Recall On The Speedometer And Gas Gauge
Posted in Performance Chips | Asked on Jun 7, 2010My speedometer and fuel gauge began to malfunction in Janurary 2010th The speedometer works sometimes. The level indicator display when the tank is full is all the way straight down to the ground, and when about half the fuel is used, it is sometimes to change the proper setting. The Chevrolet service manager, said about the fuel gauge, it was not the doctrine, but a problem within the tank and would consider a lot of money than they would have to remove the tank fixed costs.

Here is an idea, call the dealer with the VIN and ask them if there any outstanding recalls. The service manager is an idiot, it is the float or the sensor.
there are no recalls for either of those on your truck. The speedo. may have to be reprogrammed and the other is your sending unit inside your truck and is pretty easy to fix yourself, although you will have to buy a new fuel pump. If you need help with that just E-mail me.
It isn’t a full blown recall. GM is extending the warranty coverage. See the post below for details.
G M has a serious problem with inst. clusters. I have changed quite a few of these before .Some dealers will goodwill them under warranty because of a known product fault. 2004 seems the worst year for this but I have seen a few other years. Good luck and hope this helps.
HI!
You have NO Cable to operate your Speedometer. it is all electronic ( and i do not mean digital ! ) The Speed Sensor could not be at fault for this type of Problem either!
I have seen this Many Many times in Chevy , Gmc , Buick , Pontiac Etc vehicles. They even will warranty the cluster thru the dealership!!
The Problem lies in the Speedometer Cluster. These Clusters made after 2000 have Stepper Motors to drive ALL the gauges including the SPEEDOMETER ! The Tachometer and Speedometer are the Most prone to failure as they are used the most!
It is best to have the Instrument Cluster Removed and Repaired or Replaced. A junkyard Replacement is ok but make sure you get a guarantee.
I pull at least one cluster a week and repair them for this same sort of problem!
I would charge $160 to repair the cluster plus shipping.
I guarantee my work for 2 years.
I hope this helps Good Luck!
