Dodge Man Please Help Jump In RPM 2001 Dodge 2500
Posted in Performance Chips | Asked on May 21, 2010Have a 2001 dodge truck with the 5.9l cummins. I get a 200-500 RPM jump in my tachometer periodically when I just drive normal. I was told perhaps it was the throttle position sensor and replaced it but nothing has changed. Still getting the jump. It always jumps up in RPM’s never drops down. I do have a hypertech programer installed but im running stage one so not alot of additional power there to seriously mess anything up. Could it be a program fault? It has run fine on the same program for the last year and this “jump” only started a month or so ago.

Change the fuel filter and run injector cleaner might help disconnect the programmer and see if that fixes it.
is it kicking in and out of lock up mode when it does this or does that part of it stay the same,if its going up in rpm,s id say it could be the chip causing this too happen or a fault in the tach its self,if the actual rpm,s of the engine increase when it does this id try unhooking the chip and see if it still does this,if not check the tach for a fault in it,a loose ground wire will often cause a miss reading on the tack not an actual jump in rpm,s though, that would probably be in the programmer, you might also want to check the fuel pressure on it ,if it was running good before and that’s the only problem your having from it id try disconnecting the chip and see what happens to it this way you can rule it out as a possibility of the cause of it,good luck.
