Is It Possible To Install Exhaust Stacks On A Gasonline Run Truck

Posted in Exhaust and Mufflers | Asked on Jul 16, 2010

I have a 96 dodge ram ext cab shortbox. With a 5.9L Magnum V8. I want to replace the exhaust system i have with a set of stacks. From what ive read only people with diesels have installed it. Would it effect my engines performance IE backpressure? any information would be great.

It’s possible but not practical. It will take away from your performance by rerouting the exhaust and it may also prevent you from passing your smog test.

yes if you remember the dodge lil red express trucks those had them, and they do add performance,it may not help you none on the 96 model though,i have seen them on the newer models though,i know own guy who has them and he swears they helped his truck, all i know is they look good, you,ll still get a certain amount of back pressure with those installed,i don’t think it would hurt the performance that much a long as you had some back pressure on it,it may affect the 0-2 sensor readings though, this guy that has them gets no check engine lights coming on his truck and it does sound really good,i have never drove his truck only seen it and heard it,good luck

It will work! the only way you can mess with back pressure is from the to the engine. if you don’t take the cats your ok. you got to have some kind of pipe on any engine you will burn valves or get the engine bay hot and melt stuff!! other then that your good

My dads 96 V-10 wrecker has stacks on it.
It runs just fine.We retained the factory cats.
the only drawback is the pipes are right outside the windows
and when they are rolled down it’s louder than F@#$!!!
    hope this helps
