How Much Should I Ask For A 1983 MercedesBenz 300SD Sedan
Posted in Exhaust and Mufflers | Asked on Aug 1, 2010I am helping my brother sell our extra family car but have no idea what to ask for it. The car is a 1983 Mercedes-Benz 300SD, a turbo-diesel sedan. I looked on Kelley Blue Book for a price but the years for car models don’t even go to 1983 so there is no value to compare to. Mechanically, the car is sound, the engine has 140,000 miles (low for a diesel), the transmission is fine, and the exhaust system was replaced three years ago. Cosmetically the paint is faded from the roof, there are scratches down the side, and the interior trim is missing from the dashboard. There is also some rust in the jack wells. Does anybody have an idea what this car would go for? I am thinking of asking $1,600, i bought it for $4,500 four years ago. Too high or too low? While the car could use some TLC, it runs great and these things last forever. I figured it would be great for someone to do a veggie-oil conversion on.

Go to an Autotrader.com and see what those cars go for in your area.
Blue Book does not give you REAL market value. Exactly the same car will sell for a different amount in California than in Minnesota…
$4,000 will be a good price to play on. you can sell it at $4,500 and your last price could be the $4,000 mark. if you can restore it partially, fix it’s major problems, have it repainted the better because it could fetch up to $9,000.
