How Loud Would My Truck Be With A Dumped Exhaust

Posted in Exhaust and Mufflers | Asked on Jun 2, 2010

Right now i have a flowmaster super 40 cat-back exhaust system on the my 97 z71, dual in-dual out pipes behind the tires. im saving enough money to get true duals on it and im just wondering how loud will it be if i dump the exhaust? thanx or should i not dump it and just make the pipes come out behind the tire.

dumps don’t make it louder, it just makes it deeper
if you want it louder just leave it open where the muffler ends

I’m betting that it will be loud enough for you to get a fix-it ticket.

Not only will it be extremely loud, you will also lose torque.

Well for my ex boyfriend, where the muffler ended he just left it open. I mean otherwise the way you want to do it wont make it louder it like just makes the sound like ….i don’t know like a lower sound.

If i where you i would go ahead and spend the money for the cat back system and the put the dump valves somewhere between the cats and the mufflers. That way there when you have the dumps open it will sound almost like open headers the only difference is you will still have exhaust going through the cats. Putting dumps on will definitely make it a lot louder as long as they are put before the mufflers. You will lose a little gas mileage but who cares. If you are worried about milage all you have to do is close them. hope this helps.

Dumps are for racers who run their car on the street as well as the track. Open them at the track and close them for the drive home. Not only are they super loud, where I’m from it is illegal to have them open when you run on the street.
