How Can I Replace That Thick Black Rubber Band That Holds My Exhaust Pipe And I Think Also My Muffler ,.

Posted in Exhaust and Mufflers | Asked on Jul 19, 2010

Its a sort of black rubber band that simply hangs on a hook, but it looks very cracked. And I can easily shake the exhaust pipe/muffler piece. Im worried on the highway one day it will just fall off and that would be really bad.
My car is a 1991 mercedes 350sdl turbo diesel.

just get another rubber band… they are not hard to find… I have some in my desk drawer.

Get your mechanic to replace it. They’re not expensive.

you can go to any local auto part store and buy a kit.. it’s only like 20 bucks…. it’s pretty simple… maybe it will take 15 to 20 mins to do…

Purchase the “bands” from your Mercedes store or auto part stores if you know the size. If you are planing to install yourself, apply a light application of WD40 to the new bands which will allow the bands to side over the hooks with less effort. Holding the pipe/muffler up while changing one band at a time also helps.

For emergency purposes, always carry a coat hanger. The wire can be used to take the place of the band if it breaks
