Exhaust Scrape…Any Solutions

Posted in Exhaust and Mufflers | Asked on Aug 24, 2010

Somehow there is a small scrape on the top of the chrome exhaust tip of my 2008 Honda Accord Coupe. I have no idea how it got there, but some friends have told me it might be from heat. It did not hit my rear bumper because there is no scratch/dent in the actual bumper that would lead me to believe there was a collision between them. The scrape is pretty small (approx 1.5 inches in length), and is not very noticeable, but it really bugs me. The scrape is smooth and does not dent or dig into the actual exhaust tip, but there is an obvious scratch that took away the chrome in that area. Is there any way to fix this? I’ve heard it is practically impossible to do unless I am willing to get the entire tip re-done with chrome, but I really do not want to go that far. It does not necessarily have to be shiny like it would be with chrome, but I would like to try and possibly just get rid of the scratch. Any good solutions or advice you could give me? Thanks a bunch.

Maybe an aftermarket exhaust tip will work. Enter your make year model on http://www.jcwhitney.com

Maybe you backed into something without knowing it.

Due to the nature of chrome, you heard correctly about having to redo the whole piece.

They do make some products like you describe but the results are not very good. And most of them cost about the same as getting a new part or having a shop rechrome the old one.

You might want to try compound or some type of clear cloat. The scratch will be there but it won’t be as noticeable as it would be with dirt on the interior edges of the scratch. Just like fixing a scratch in clear coat over paint.
