Hook the positive cable to the battery terminal first, and, for safety, hook the negative cable to a good ground on the engine. This will prevent the possibility of sparks occurring near the battery when the cables are connected and disconnected. This is also true when jump starting another vehicle.
The possibility of sparks near any hydrogen gas from the battery is not a good way to start out your day.
When you’re finished, disconnect the negative terminal first.

YES IT DOES MATTER! YOU SHOULD HOOK UP THE POSITIVE CABLE FIRST THEN HOOK THE NEG CABLE TO A GOOD GROUND ” PREFERABLY THE BLOCK” AS TO NOT CAUSE A SPARK AT THE BATTERY WHICH COULD POSSIBLY CAUSE AN EXPLOSION .
