Car Battery Drains In A Matter Of Hours.
Posted in Car Batteries | Asked on May 26, 2010I have a 1991 Dodge Colt and within a few hours of using my car, my battery starts to die (my stereo going out, lights dimming, etc.). I replace the alternator in early March and have taken it to Autozone to have it tested and it is good. I checked my fuses and they’re all fine. I have a spare battery that I carry in my car just incase that I end up using everyday. I had to buy a battery charger from O’Reily’s to recharge my 2 batteries every night. Whenever I get out of my car I unhook my battery, which seems to prolong the life. Any ideas?

sounds like you have a leek in your cars electrical system, close down everything and connect a amp meter from your positive terminal and the battery post from which you have removed it,any leeks will show a discharge on your meter, this may be small, but overnight can drain off a lot of power.Cheers.
I had the same problem and had to install a battery isolator to disconnect the battery from all the systems to keep it from running down when I wasn’t using it. You can buy it at Auto Zone. Mine was a 92 dodge van. Dodges have a bad thing of doing just that.
