Car Battery Charger Question

Ok so i have a 6 amp battery charger so i hooked it up instead of my battery so i could turn my lights on and it would go off for about a minute then come on for about 20 seconds. does that mean its messed up or is that what all battery chargers do go on and off?
no i wasnt trying to power the car just the lights thanks for the answer though.

    So you’re trying to power the car with just a battery charger?

    My guess is that your car is drawing more than 6 amps.

    The charger most likely has a circuit breaker that is being tripped.

    The charger is trying to save itself from overheating.

    battery charger is meant to charge batteries, not power anything in real time.

    headlights alone could draw around 8 amps.

    get a battery, make sure it’s charged, use it.

    It’s not messed up, they all do that to some extent
