Can I Use The Power From A Regular Ac Car Adapter To Power A Regular Device
Posted in Car Batteries | Asked on Jul 1, 2010So i was wondering, i have this car adapter for my cellphone, which charges through a regular usb connector. So i was wondering if i cut the cables and connected them to a regular 2 legged device if it would work. i was thinking of modding the connectors to plug to the pins on my battery laptop charger.
What is the voltage on the cigarette lighter ? anything else that i should take in count ? thanks for any advice.

I don’t know what you mean by cutting it and something (what is a “regular 2 legged device” ???).
But if you do NOT know what you are doing EXACTLY, don’t do it.
Car battery is 12v – but can supply hundreds of amps. Through the cigarette lighter it can supply from 10 to 20 amps (that 120 watt to 240 watt). Easily fry your laptop and other electronics.
good Luck..
buy a power inverter to plug into the cig outlet then plug your laptop into that.
DON’T CUT WIRES! I cigarette lighter is 12 volts but the piece that plug into the lighter is the supply that limits the power. you could seriously damage your laptop! Buy i power Inverter for your car. It plugs into the outlet and has a Plug in for a house plug.
