Will I Notice An Increase With A Header And Performnce Cat On My Sunfire
Posted in Air Intakes System | Asked on Jul 13, 2010I have a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire with a 2.2L. I have just put a throttle body spacer and a cold air intake and i have noticed an increase in acceleration. I want to put a header and a performance Catalytic Converter will i notice more increase in acceleration? also will the header fit on with no modifications? I want to make sure i can beat my friend with his 2002 Chevy Silverado with a 4.8L. Its pretty fast for stock.

of course, and throttle response goes up too
It will help but your friend will win unless you buy a different car. To beat the truck with yours you will spend more then a fairly new Trans am.
If you noticed the first mod, you’ll probably notince the second. But IMHO, most people won’t feel a 10 hp bump. What you’ll notice more is a throatier exhaust note, and you’ll feel sportier.
I also think beating your friend’s pickup is a tall order… Sorry.
yes you should be able to feel a differnce with headers and a high flow cat. the exhaust is often the most restictive part of cars. it will also increase your gas millage.
as far as beating your friend, you should be able to do it. its a truck for god sakes.
good luck
you ll get about 15-35 more hp with headers but I’m not sure about cat converter.keep in mind that some states have regulations on headers.
You’ll get more horse power but with the headers and high flow cat you’ll lose low end torque because of the lack of back pressure. This means off the line you won’t gain anything, you’re top end will just be better. My GTP was faster from 0 to 60 with the stock manifolds and converter, now It will go over 130mph but it was more fun before off the line. I wish I had saved the money. Get a turbo or supercharger for faster acceleration.
