Posted in Air Intakes System | Asked on Jan 30, 2012I have a 2006 Dodge Charger w/cold air intake. Anyone know what the name of the hose is that runs on the drivers side from the manifold to the cold air intake? Its about an inch or so around and connects with those little medal clamps. “Vacuum hose”
Are you hot and ditzy?
Sounds like it would probably be a hose for the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system. In order to keep air that leaks past the piston rings (which is acidic) from contaminating the oil, fresh air is drawn in from somewhere after the air filter, into the crankcase, then out of the crankcase and into the portion of the Intake Manifold just before where the air goes into the cylinders. That way, the crankcase fumes are burned in the combustion process.
My guess would be that the other end of this tube goes to a part of the Intake Manifold that simply seals the top of the engine, as opposed to the part that is connected to the incoming air that goes in the cylinders. If that’s the case, it would probably be called something like PCV fresh air supply tube?
On cars before about 1965, crankcase fumes were just vented into the atmosphere, by means of what was called a “road draft tube”. Not as effective as the current style, as it relied on the car moving down the road to provide the suction. So, besides lowering emissions into the air, it also helps your oil last longer without going bad.
If the fresh air intake is restricted, then the fumes aren’t going to be drawn out as well as they should, so extra oil changes until you get this fixed, and another right after, would be a good idea.
My suggestion is to go to Kragen or Auto zone, they are great about helping with questions like that and the computers can pull up pictures of what you are looking for. They alway help me out.

Usa your camera or cellphone camera and take a picture, then show it to a local auto parts store or parts department at the dealership.
Ifit gose to the air cleaner its a heat riser toube and or its a air tube or a vacum line but in ether cace yu sould be able to figer it out at the parts stor when you give them the year make and modle and bring the old part into them
