Need Help With A 1982 Dodge D150
Posted in Air Intakes System | Asked on Jan 17, 2012Hey. i have a 1982 dodge d150 360 5.9 liter it had a stock 2 barrel carb and i just replaced it and the intake manifold.
when i put everything back together it NEVER starts right. it will turn over and sometimes it will start. but it like when it turns over it sounds like it is going very very slow. like i dont know how to explain other then it just turns over so slow it wont start !
i just bought a new battery. and there might be like a loose connection with the alternator but that wont cause that will it ??
how can i fix it ? does it have to do with my ignition system ? like my distruputor timing, or like my actual starter ?!

If your alternator connection is loose it won’t charge the battery well and your battery will get run down. It’s not timing or ignition. It could be your starter but changing your carb and manifold wouldn’t affect the starter. Did the new battery make a difference on the first start with it?
If it cranked quickly before the intake/carb change and now cranks slow it may be the distributor was not reinstalled correctly and is advanced too much. Might want to retard the distributor a few degrees and see what happens.
Possibly the starter but if it was working before the intake change, it should still be OK. Could be a slightly discharged battery but doubtful . . . the battery wouldn’t turn it over but a few times before quitting.
Doubtful it’s the ignition system, that provides fire to the plugs, would prevent running but not rotation.
Check all engine grounds, I don’t think that’s the problem either but check anyway.
I would check the timing..
