D16y8 Honda Civic Swap Help Me Someone Car Dies After Pressing Gas
Posted in Air Intakes System | Asked on Jan 2, 2012Ok so i swapped everything in. i had a d16y7 in my 97 hatch. i swapped to an 2000 d16y8.
well in doing so i had problems with it starting. so i noticed the thermostat housing ground wasnt attached. so i did that and the car starts.
well the problem now is that the car idles high and the CEL stays on.
now i didnt wire the knock sensor or the vtec, but i doubt thats the problem here.
i can give its hardly any pressure on the gas pedal and itll climb, but wont go pass about 2000 rpms. if i give it more than a slight touch it dies.
what could this be from?
also i dont know what hoses hook into the intake manifold. there are 2 nipples on the intake manifold, one goes to the pcv valve, and below that there is another…where do i connect to/from?
by the way i am having a shop install it. never going back to them. they suck. and are lost.
yes im using the p2p ecu

Mass air flow maybe. it sound like no air is getting to the engine almost like no back pressure is the gas pedal like soft and go to the floor?
It sounds like your TPS might be dead. Throttle position sensor tells your car what percentage throttle your using. If it took a crap when you touch the gas pedal slightly your computer might think its full throttle so the ECU dumps a bunch of gas in at low rpms and your car will die. But do this for me, go inside your car and right above where your right calf would sit is a 2 prong connector ( atleast there is one on my 95 civic) When you connect that the check engine light will flash codes at you. If that doesn’t help go to the link below and use there red search feature to dig around in the archives. Theres anwsers to all your questions in the honda-tech archives.
Are you using the D16Y8 ECU? if you are then the knock sensor or VTEC not being plugged up will throw the engine light. As for the rough idling and not starting its all in the wiring or something is not plugged in. This is why you pay someone to do this if you have no idea what you are doing. Now whats going to happen is you are going to be paying 50-100% MORE than what it would have if it was done by someone in the first place. Also you do realize that a D16Y8 and D16Y7 are really not that far apart in power right. The D16Y7 puts down 93 HP at the front wheels, and the Y8 puts down 107 at the wheels. 14 more HP.
