Can An Electrical Short Make My Dodge Avenger Stall
Posted in Air Intakes System | Asked on Jan 28, 2012Ok so my throttle cable gets really hot and melted on my car there is a ground that goes to the intake manifold and it bolts to a bracket that hold the throttle cable so after a minitue of the car running the cable gets really hot and starts melting. when i snap the throttle the enigine wants to die and after driving for about 10 mins evrything goes crazy as if my cars not getting good spark or enough gas. i think that when i changed my gound which grounded to the firewall and my engine bloc i only grounded it to my engine so i think my throttle cable is acting as a ground coud this be causing my car to stall?

Your right on that ,and it will also cause other problems with that one also, you need one main ground wire going from the battery to the engine ,another one going to the body ,all of these have to be good sized wires to carry the return current other wise it will melt what ever its trying to use as a ground,i have seen cars burn up over this problem, usually there’s multiple ground wires on cars, there’s an old saying you cant never have too many ground wires on a car,and that is very true, but that is a serous problem, and needs to be repaired, that will make it stall out ,good luck on it.
Not %100 sure whats being ask but I think your throttle butterfly may need adjusting. There is a chance of the cable grounding the motor but I would say highly highly unlikely.
I agree with dodgeman….your car is trying to use the thottle cable as a ground…
Dodge man has it right on the money, it sounds like the body of the car is looking for a ground and is using the throttle cable becouse you have a good engine ground but no body ground for all the accesiores like the fuel pump in the tank and all the lights. My brothers caddy had a bad body ground and when he turned on his headlamps and denied the fuel pump a good groung the car would slow down from highway speeds. Not a bad pump but a bad body ground.
I would agree with dodge man
