93′ F150 302, 5 Speed Manual 4×4
Posted in Air Intakes System | Asked on Jul 12, 2010I have a 93′ f-150 with a 302, 5 speed manual transmission and 4×4. I am putting a cold air intake for sure, and am thinking about a throttle body spacer although i heard that when you have fuel injection it wont do much good. has anyone with a motor like mine, or with fuel injection done this? can you tell me what you gained horsepower wise, low and high end torque wise, and mpg wise. also i have the same question about the programmer chip. thanx

Because of how high the throttle body sits up off of the motor on your truck a throttle body spacer isn’t really going to help. A much better option would be an upper to lower intake spacer. They are fairly common on 302 (5.0) Mustangs for this same reason.
You will need to get one specific to your truck though because the 5.0 Mustang intake has oval ports while your truck has rectangular intake ports. Some aftermarket Mustang intakes also use the rectangular ports like your truck so you should be able to find one.
I’d go with a cold air intake kit, the manifold spacer , shorty headers, platinum plugs, cat back sys. Maybe a performance chip .
The cold air intake and spacer arent gonna net you 5hp.
You ask about MPG and horsepower. 2 things that just dont go hand in hand. If your looking for power start with some nice exhaust, steeper gears in the rear then onto heads intake and cam swap. Improving gas milage on that truck is gonna be a long shot
Better Gas mileage and Horsepower sure as heck do go hand in hand. Anything that Gves you more horsepower is going to make your engine not have to work as hard to get up to speed.
The only time more horsepower doesn’t equal better gas mileage is when you start driving like an idiot, becuase your car or truck is faster . (which is what most people do)
