The Car Security System Turns On when Hot Summer Day

Posted in Interior Accessories | Asked on Mar 8, 2010

My car is toyota camry 1998 with dealer installed security system. On hot summer days, my car security system turns ON everyday without touching it. Its sensors get activated automatically due to very hot temperature and then car starts beeping with loud noise. MY apt. people have given me warnings too. Question is what can be wrong in the secuirty system which turns it ON due to high temperature?

There’s a difference between FACTORY installed and DEALER installed alarm system. The difference is the quality of the workmanship / installation.

Many aftermarket installers (including dealer installers) just twist the wires together. The wires should be either soldered or crimped. The twisted on wires are not very good (depending on your car vibration / road condition).

You can start from the alarm unit and follow the wires out. Check every connection and if they are not soldered or crimped. Check especially the ground wire. Weak ground causes myriad of problems.

If you did not find a bad connection, then disconnect all the sensors. If the alarm still sounds, then it is the main unit and need new alarm. If the alarm does not go off with the sensors disconnected, then one by one reconnect the sensors and wait few days in between.

But it has been my experience that given your car is about 10 years old, you probably need a new alarm system. With electronics, they either work forever or they just need replacing. Fixing them would be more expensive than replacing them (often).

    Good Luck.
