My Speedometer No Longer Works, Along With My Dome Lights, Sun Visor Lights, And Clock, What Is The Issue
Posted in Sun Visor & Shield | Asked on Jun 20, 2011The car is a 1996 Mustang base model, I recently had my stereo stolen and I was messing with putting a new one in and now the speedometer doesn’t work along with the stereo. I am torn I wanna say it’s a fuse issue, but I don’t know what that has to do with the speedometer. At the same I thought it was a wiring issue like I tugged something loose, but even if so that doesn’t really explain everything else not working.

It may well be that it is two separate issues – the speedometer and the electrical problems. Replace the fuse. See what that repairs (a cheap fix). Then look to see what else needs to be done.
I’m gonna say a fuse or two. Check for a little box either under the hood or to the left side of the dash by the knee. Good luck ?
Check your fuses first. Then if they’re all fine, check the wire connecting the back of the speedometer. With monkeying around with your stereo you may have accidentally disconnected it. If that’s ok, then check the wires running from the gauge to the vehicle speed sensor on the transmission, and make sure it has continuity. If its good check for voltage when the car starts up. Lastly if it still doesn’t work, replace the vehicle speed sensor.
