    It’s a 900w amp. 1800w is a meaningless peak rating.

Gain is a sensitivity adjustment intended to be set in accordance with the preamp voltage of your head unit. Most $100-150 HU’s have 2v preamps. Some higher end units are 4v and a few are higher.

If you’re not sure of your preamp strength you can set the gain by ear. Leave the amp’s bass boost at zero. Turn the amp’s gain all the way left (highest voltage). Set your HU’s bass and treble to their neutral positions. Put in a CD that is representative of the type of music you generally listen to. Play the cd and turn the HU volume as high as you would ever listen to it but don’t exceed 80% or so. Then go to the amp and increase the gain until the subs start to sound sloppy. From there reduce it slightly and you’re set.
