I had the same problem, you may want to take it to a best buy or other electronics installer. Mine would turn all the bass off when I put it up to loud. Its a way the stereo and amp protects your subs from blowing out sometimes due to overpowering them or faulty wiring. You should go in there and see if they can bridge ur system, thats what I did and now I can blast it. Blew a sub once but thats what BB warranties are for ; )

You’ve got power issues. It’s good that the equipment goes off on protection instead of blowing up.

Assuming that the amp is bridged and running at full power to the sub..

Check all connections, make sure they are solid, and there is no corrosion. Pay specific attention to the grounds. Clean with sandpaper if needed, follow with a little wd40 to help protect against future corrosion if needed. Running an additional engine ground may help also.

A ramcharger is an older vehicle. You probably have an older or tired alternator. The charge/discharge meter on your dashboard most likely doesn’t work well. Hook up a voltmeter to the electrical system and go for a ride. You should have a steady 13 to 14 Volts.

I had very similar vehicle, a d150 pickup, and when stopped at idle the voltage would drop right down to about 12.8 If the system was on I could get it down to 11, which means that I am running entirely off of the battery. Electrical systems in older vehicles are not as advanced as the ones today.

If you find the alternator to be weak, when you go to replace it see if a higher output one is available. When in the car parts store do a little research, you may find that the mopar 360 has a higher output version and will fit.

You either have a bad wiring or the amp is getting too hot and is tripping the thermal protection circuit protection. When it shuts off, look at the amp to see if there is a light that is lighting up. If this isn’t the problem, check the wiring of your system to check for loose connections.

Is this while you’re driving or idling?
If it does this at an idle then next time you do it push your gas pedal down (while in park of course) because your sub is taking alot of power from the alternator so the RPM gets so low it thinks the car turned off so naturally the radio will turn off.
Invest in capacitors and a high performance alternator. It’s not a potential problem, just means you have a good system.
