Car Speakers Help Please
Posted in Car Electronics | Asked on Jan 19, 2012Hi i am trying to buy a new speakers for my car and need help because i dont know anything about this stuff.
Okay so i just got this stereo: JVC KD-HDR40
I want speakers that work really well but they dont have to be bass blasters or anything crazy. I want to be able to turn it up and it still be clear sounding.
I plan on spending around $100 for each pair.
I already know that companies like Alpine, Infinity, Polk, ect. are good but i dont know any thing about Watts and all that other stuff is. I know that i dont want to use an amp though.
So i need to know how to pick a good non-amp speaker and why.
Thanks so much!!

I bought 2 pair of sony xplode for my civic, installed them myself (tho the rear deck is lots harder thany ou may think), and spent less than $100 total.
soudn great for the quality yuou cite in your needs/desire.
one of the keys here is there are only going to be a few which will fit your car, probably, 5″ or 6″ round for the doors, 4×6 or 6×9 in the rear deck buit even these will have enough power if you’re not using an adidtional amp.
crutchfield.com can help you find what speaker sizes will fit your car…

They’ve been in the car audio business for about 25-30 years …long before the internet and Amazon. I have bought from Crutchfield many times and I highly recommend them You can scope out their website to help you find not only speakers that sound good but, more importantly, will fit your car. If all the techno-speak is too much, just give them a call and they can set you up very nicely.
Over the years they have expanded into a lot of other personal electronic equipment but their “meat and potatoes” and what they started out with is car audio.
Look carefully at thespeakers you already have. They will have labels that say how many watts and how many ohms. Replacing those, you should look for the same ohms, but more power. Size is important for a neat installation. If there’s room, you might modify the panel for larger size speakers.
Now, go shopping, and as you do that, audition the speakers on display to see how you like them and how they perform depending on the program. Reject any that distort in any way. That stereo of yours is suposed to output 50 watts max per channel. That measure is vague and tells little about undistorted power, which may turn out to be 15-30 rms watts per channel, but to keep it simple, look for speakers rated at more than that rms rating. You should be OK with 50 rms watt speakers with a response of 40Hz-16,000 Hz.
Your JVC puts out about 15 watts rms. any speaker you buy will be okay on your factory deck. I would go with alpine, they are great quality and fairly inexpensive. I highly recommend buying an amplifier to run them, The difference is night and day.
