Will A Bad Oxygen Sensor Keep A Car From Idle
I have a 2003 Ford Expedition 5.4 V8. Diagnostics stated I had a bad oxygen sensor in Bank 2. My engine will not idle unless it has constant gas from the pedal. Could this possibly be why? Also, where is Bank 2 located if possible? Thank you

There are 2 Responses to “Will A Bad Oxygen Sensor Keep A Car From Idle”Hi … I think it is possible. I know that I was starting to get really bad gas milage in my Ford truck and it was suggested to me to get a new O2 sensor … my truck is older, so I only had one sensor to take out. Anyways …. it worked!
Look on Youtube for oxygen sensor …. you can do it yourself, and the Youtube video will show you how. As far as the idle goes ….. I would also want to check the mass air flow sensor, but I think the car computer will show these codes.
I think you can go to Auto Zone or most any auto parts places and they can hook up a scan tool to check read your codes for free. They could probably also tell you where your O2 sensors are located …. also free.
hope this helps
The O2 sensor will not prevent a vehicle from idling or cause a stalling condition. The O2 output is used only to trim the air/fuel mixture from a pre-programmed set value – it will not cause a significant drive-ability problem.
Stalling at idle speeds can be caused by a variety of problems such as a vacuum leak, an unmetered air leak between the MAF and the throttle body, a faulty IAC, a dirty throttle body or MAF sensor and so on.
