What Is The Difference Between A Upstream And A Downstream Oxygen Sensor And How Many Does A 96 Chrysler LHS

Have? If more then one do I have to replace them all. If not how do I know which one to replace? Please help!

    Depends what, if any, codes your computer is throwing out.
    Upstream O2 sensors are located before the catalytic converter, downstream are located after. Your 96 probably has 4 sensors.
    Generally, the upstream sensors fail before the downstream, and cause more havoc. Replacing only the upstream sensors is normal. When the downstream sensors fail, all you usually get is a code saying the catalytic isn’t working.

    Upstream O2 sensors are before the catalytic converter, downstream are after it. You should replace all at the same time if your getting a code for bad O2 sensors. You car should have 3 or 4 sensors.
