Honda Misfire Any Ideas Please.
Posted in Internal Engine Parts | Asked on Feb 8, 2012I have a 97 honda civic ex, replaced timing belt, water pump, complete tune up. my cel light is on, i had it scanned says cylinder 1 and 2 misfire. car is a little sluggish at times but runs good, getting about 210 miles out of a tank of gas, car doesnt smoke or overheat. what could be causing misfire? oil leak? this is the only thing wrong with this car, going to have to end up taking it to a shop, just looking for any ideas….thank you, oh, does idle a little low, seems to be a low end misfire

Had one 2 years ago same model that did the same thing. Turned out to be the pcm going bad
Are you positive the pulleys were positioned correctly when you put the belt on?
Check the ignition timing as well.
Impossible to say without a lot more info, and testing. I got about 360-420 miles per tank in my 1998 EX, so your stated mileage seems really bad. So… I hate to say, but in my professional opinion, it sounds like a bad head gasket since you’ve replaced everything else major. The fact that adjoining cylinders are showing a bad code really points to a failed head gasket between them. And – contrary to another answer – it can’t be the engine computer because all cylinders would show misfire.
Did you check the compression? If not, do that FIRST before you spend any more money. Then take it from there. Best of luck with your situation.
Check ignition timing
get new spark plugs and gap them to spec
check spark plug wires
If it was fine before you did the tune-up. I would venture to guess you may have the plug wires installed on the wrong spark plugs. May have an issue with valve lash being off.
