Engine Stuttering And Stalling
Posted in Internal Engine Parts | Asked on Nov 16, 2011I have a ’94 Mazda Protege DOHC
My car’s engine has been stuttering and stalling out periodically. I just went to try starting it and it had smoke coming out of the exhaust and was stuttering badly every time revved the engine. I’ve recently done a tune up. (cap and rotor, plugs, wires, air filter). I just put in some cheap valve cleaner on the request of my local auto parts dealer.
When I warmed up the car and revved the engine a few times it got better, but it has stalled out while driving previously.
I did tune up about 9 months ago. I ran fine.
If I had lots of cash to take it to a mechanic I would not try to ask questions on the internet.
if I could afford to get a new car and let this one go I would do that. I can’t.

Check fuel filter.
Maybe its out of gas like literally out oF GAS no more will to LIVE! or if its stuttering maybe you were being mean and it dont wanna talk to you no more
Tried the fuel filter??
I’ve had two cars with this issue.
On my first car we unplugged the air intake or whatever (like a hose going into the engine) and that made a loud vacuum noise but the car stopped stalling. I don’t know a lot about engines, but that’s what my dad did and it worked.
My current car started sputtering and stalling at red lights the other night, so I put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner and a bottle of water remover, and filled up with Shell gas and it seems to be better.
My dad thinks that it was probably caused by screwed up gas, as it seems to be fine now.
I’d try those methods for starters. Also change your oil since your exhaust is smoking.
The car’s 14 years old….time to get out the sledge hammer and start charging $1.00 per swing.
There are to many things that it could be be to guess. You need a garage with an analyzer. The smoke however could have been from the valve cleaner.
Maybe the timing is off? Get it retimed.
This could be a number of things, most likely a small thing. Check the fuel filter, I would suggest taking it to a auto store you trust. tell then you don’t have allot of cash but want to keep it in good repair.
Would i be correct in guessing that the car ran better before your tune up?
You are not firing on all your cylinders. So go back and
1- make sure you have the correct cap and rotor on the car ( i hope you saved the old ones)
2) make sure that the plugs are seated and that the wires are also seated
3) are all the plug wires in the proper cylinders? and what about the cap??
