Start by having the thermostat changed. It should be fairly cheap, and might be the cause of your issue.
STOP DRIVING THE CAR IMMIDIATLY. IF the water pump or a hose went bad, you lose the water in the head first and you can cause damage to the top of the engine before the temprature gauge gets up to hot. Keep in mind the temprature sensor is in the block, not in the head. ??
If you put water in the cap, and it pours right back out, call a mechanic take the car to a shop and have it fixed, otherwise you run the risk of blowing the motor. Any time you have a problem like this, you cannot keep driving the car. you do not try to ” make it home” you park, and you call a tow truck. Anyone with a car more than a few years old should have triple AAA. it will pay for itself using it one time a year. And it comes in handy for out of gas, locking the car keys accidentally inside, any number of things. So my suggestion is get AAA towing service. because it comes in handy like right now when you need them.
Do not drive the car. Over heating leads to other major issues, specifically a blown head gasket and a warped cylinder head if you continue.
Since you say it immediately lets the water out, pour more water into the radiator and look for where the water is coming out. Do it when the engine is cooled down and don’t be afraid to poke around inside the engine bay. I suspect there’s a ripped hose somewhere and it’s torn on the bottom where you can’t see it.
Once you find out where the leak is coming from or at least a general area post the information up (or pictures if you’re not sure how to describe the leaking part) so you can get further help on what to do next. Otherwise the only help you’re going to get is “take it to a mechanic”.
