Would Bad Fuel Injectors Be The Reason My 1993 GMC 2500 Not HD 4X4 TBI 5.7L350 With 5 Speed, Not Starting
Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Jun 4, 2010I just received a 1993 GMC 2500 SL, 4×4, 8 ‘bed, reg. cab, TBI 5th 7L (GM 350), with a five course trans (L, 2, 3, 4, OD, R). The guy took it off of his property. He said it will not start because the ignition or sensor was bad. The small sensor with two pins on the back of the cap. Auto parts store had different names for it, but I put it in any case (only $ 51). . and nothing! So now I decide to shoot me instead of bothering his word good for them is the throttle not delivering fuel to the engine. The fuel filter is new, fuel pump pumps fuel to the throttle body, but that’s it. If I manually arms a little gas in the throttle body (I bypass the injectors? Guessing), it fires right up (which the guy I told him I care, it was not any spark .. Well, it has spark). I took apart the throttle body and injectors, the screens were found on it is dirty, and someone suggested replacing the actual injectors. Could it be an electrical cause and another sensor / module too? I have a new ignition / sensor module. . . . nothing, throttle body cleaned, nothing. . . . and then I get new injectors on and still nothing! Someone said to try and get to tell another ignition module / sensor (rear distributor), I prefer that the new may be bad. . . . . . someone said posibble cam sensor, I’ll try this. . . any other suggestions? Thanks. . . I have a new ignition / sensor module. . . . nothing, throttle body cleaned, nothing. . . . and then I get new injectors on and still nothing! Well you narrowed it down to the injectors, or lack of the injectors firing.
If I remember correctly, the injectors are controlled by the camshaft sensor and throttle position (with the O2 for mixture tuning)… Hopefully someone a little more familiar with the TBI will chime in behind me. I would verify the cam sensor
If the fuel is making it to the TBI and not out of the injectors then you’d be pretty safe replacing the injectors. As for an electrical issue….The injectors themselves are electrical. Which brings something else to mind….Check the ECM (computer). Are they being told to inject or not? It would be nice if you had acess to another vehicle that did run so you could swap them out and test the injectors before buying new ones.
This may seem stupid but i had the same problem a few weeks ago. It ended up being a damn fuse!!! Dont know if you checked it but, hey, worth a shot.
