Why Won’t My Gas Power Washer Restart

Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Jul 30, 2011

I have a North Star Power Washer with a 5.0 Honda motor. Tuesday, I power washed the house, the kids came home from school and I turned it off. I fixed them a snack and went back to the washer and it will NOT crank. I thought maybe it was because the motor was hot, which should have made it easier to crank, so I let it cool off. It makes no difference, hot or cold, it won’t crank.

It has gas, oil in the motor, oil in the pump and a new spark plug. I used starter fluid. What else can I try to get it to crank? It did backfire when I turned it off, if that helps.

Honda uses a low oil shutoff switch, little float thing in the crank case, that shuts the spark off if the oil level is too low.
Make sure the oil level is up where it should be.

Other than that, check the on off switch.

Honda’s are pretty good little engines…????

You say it won’t crank so I will assume you mean it doesn’t turn over. That means you pump is locked up or not releasing the water pressure. You may need to rebuild or repair the pump.

The pump can build up pressure and make it real hard to turn the motor.Pull the wand trigger while pulling the start rope. That will relieve the pump pressure while starting the motor.
