Why Does My Civic Feel Like Its Hauling A Trailer

Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Aug 18, 2010

My civic feels like its driving with the hand brake up or something. it always felt kinda weak, but now its easier to notice. so far it has a new tranny, new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap +rotor, pcv, air filter, cat, + fuel filter, but i feels pretty much the same. the engine also vibrates strangely, the right side of the engine vibrates a lot when its idle, but when i give it just a little gas the shaking goes down and evens out. what could be wrong? a mechanic at autozone said the “timing belt is bad” what does that mean? do i have to change the belt or adjust the timing? a friend pointed out that my engine is vtec but the ecu is not, but there arent any engine light on my dash. could the ecu be why my car is lagging?

Almost sounds like you got two problems because the dragging part sounds like your brakes are dragging and the engine might need a new timing belt but that wont make the motor shake the car could have a bad mount or somthing or the ecu could be your problem i would start with the ecu.

Timing belt really should be replaced or your going to put a valve into your piston and the issue of the ecu just means that your engine wont run into vtec which means your not getting any horse power. do not buy a stock vtec ecu – get aftermarket high performance thats tuneable…its probably even cheaper.
