Street Fire Spark Plug Wires
Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Apr 20, 2011I put Street Fire Spark Plug Wires in my 97′ dodge ram 1500, Laramie SLT(5.9 v-8) and new spark plugs the other day and now the check engine light is on. First I replaced the spark plugs, no light came on then. After I replaced all the wires though the “yellow light of death came on. I don’t know if the length of the wires makes a difference, I did the wires one at a time and tried to make the new wires the same as the old ones. Did I dod something wrong or are the new wires messing with the computer in my truck?

The computer in a ’97 is really just a fancy ignition system, & it sounds like you tripped it somehow. They are ‘smart’ enough to sense the change in the length of the wires, but you seem to have that covered. Suggest you unhook the battery for a couple of hours, & see if the computer will forget….
You may have knoced off some sensor wire when routing and installing your plug wires
