OK.Have A 2000 Ford Ranger,2.3cl,died While Driving.changed The Spark Plugs,no Sparkignition Coil’s Ok.help

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger XLT 2-door, 2.3 cylinder. 153,000 miles It has been running fine until I was driving and it just died on me. It will turn over, but no spark. I have changed the spark plugs, and just had the coil pack checked and they said that it was fine. (*They could only check the resistance though) I put the new spark plugs on and it is not sparking??? HELP? Not sure what the problem could be. My truck does not have a distributor so I am just lost!! Any Ideas?? I have had some people tell me the timing belt, but if it was the timing belt it wouldn’t turn over. If anyone has had experience with this problem with the Ford Ranger please let you know your insight on the problem. Thank you so much for your time!!

It can be your timing belt. If it breaks the cam will not turn, but the crankshaft will turn over just fine. When the timing belt breaks and the cam stops turning, you won’t get any spark because the cam sensor is not picking up any movement from the camshaft, because it isn’t moving. Your valves are not moving either, luckily the 2.3L engine is a non interference engine. This means that your pistons are not going to hit the intake valves that are stuck open. New timing belt, installed will run you about $200-$300. The belt on the Ranger should be changed about every 90,000 to prevent breakage.

Do a compression check on a couple cylinders to confirm cam not turning. If cam turning, then could be cam or crank sensor.

Happy Easter . Fuel cut off switch.has a small red button to reset it. autozone.com may have a location . on the older rangers it was under the carpet under the dash passenger side left foot area.
