Mercedes Vito Engine Smokes, Help
Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Jul 31, 2010My s reg vito blows out lots of black smoke out the exhuast?
i know people are going to say get rid of it but i want to get to the bottom of the problem.
Also when looking at the engine it looks like diesel is sitting around the glow plugs and when you excellerate it seems to get sucked back in to the engine???
its a s reg vito 2.3 diesel non turbo

If the diesel puddles seem to get sucked back in on acceleration, sounds like an intake manifold gasket leak. That might explain the engine smoking, but not sure. White smoke would indicate burning oil, steam in the exhaust indicates a head gasket, but black smoke usually means too rich a mixture, but that’s more for gasoline engines.
That’s pretty much all the help I can think of, I’m not a mechanic by trade, but do a bit of it on the side.
