I Need Help On My 1966 Chevy Step Side ASAP

Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Aug 12, 2010

I have a 1966 chevy c-10 with a 350 small block, I had to rig some wiring for my truck so I could get it running because the ignition working; I think it was the hot wire, but I had no time to rewire the whole ignition.
My rewiring is a straight cable going from the battery to the distributor that forks from the distributor to the ignition a an on and off switch I installed since my key doesn’t turn the car off I have to switch it off.
A while back I went to flip the switch I installed and a short happened and Burnt the temperature wire then a couple days later I went out for a bite and I revved my truck to 3rpms and it turned off now the only way I can start it is if I jump it but once i turn it off I can’t turn it back on. I checked the battery and alternator they are fine so it’s electrical which is my weakness.

You are sure the alternator is putting out 14.6 volts? if so you might have a battery thats not holding a charge, or possibly a bad connection on one of the battery cables, or a constant drain on the battery like a short thats keeping something on all the time
