Try unhooking the battery for about 10 min.

Your 2001 Ford Taurus has computer chip keys. You just can not replace the old ignition switch and have it work. You need to have the ignition switch matched up to your old keys. A locksmith can do this for you.

You can also order an ignition switch from amazingkeys.com that they will be match up to your old keys at no extra charge. Here is the link to the 2001 Ford Taurus that tells you all about matching up the keys:

Two new chip keys will have to be programmed to the car by a locksmith or dealer. Transponder systems are NOT diy.
