How Can I Fix My Diesel Truck Not Starting
Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Jun 29, 2010I have a ’95 Ford 7.3L diesel truck that won’t start. I originaly had a bad glow plug relay which I replaced. However, now it still won’t start. It doesn’t produce any smoke or vapor from the exhaust when cranked so I suspect that it is a fuel delivery problem. My fuel filter resevour seems to fill up properly so I asumed it must be in the high pressure side of the fuel system between the filter and the injectors but I can’t find how to diagnose it.

back off the line that goes to one of the injectors, on the 7.3 you have to prime the system that way so I assume that you could check to see if you have fuel going to the injectors the same way.
Crack open the line at one of the injecters and crank it over if you have air in the lines it will be tough to start. Also check to make sure the pump is working. You can spray WD40 in the intake, that is better than starting fluid.
some times, there is a push pump plunger that dispells air and pushes fuel up into the injecter body. by pushing it , may push enough diesel to get and keep the engine to run
seen same problem on 00 f550 with 7.3diesel six techs from different truck shops came and never return . check every thingwith snap on modis truck wony start put one mechanic on truck gave him ideas to work with took off valve cover crank engine to see if any oil is reaching top of engine. no oil there . gave him a diagram of hydraulic system for delivering engine oil to top of engine and injector , high pressure line was clogged due to no oil change . cleaned out system and engine started . now on ford with 7.3 international engine you will need oil pressure to open the injector. there is two shiny hose that goes to cyl head left and right it is connected to oil pump under fuel resivour . remove right bank first clean and hook up oil pressure gauge , this is very very high pressure . try this first before going to idm and pcm if no oil pressure to inj. no signal to idm to open injector ……….good luck
Maybe the injectors or the engine starter could be the problem. If you go to a truck stop(big rig truck stop) maybe they can help because they already fix diesel engines for 18-wheelers. I’m sure that they can fix it. GOOD LUCK!
