Car Help Please… Im Going Nuts Trying To Figure Out What Wrong With It

Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Aug 18, 2010

OK my 1986 nissan 300zx N/A has a misfire at idle and under medium throttle. Iv replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor Button, and iv taken the catalytic converter off the see if its plugged *its not*.

Im thinking it could be the EGR Valve, Mass air flow sensor, Oxygen sensor, or the intake/ exhaust manifold gasket.

Any one know what else it could be or what to replace first. And its also smells like gas inside and out side of the car sometimes.

WOW, that could be numerous things. But you say that you are smelling gas sometimes, that leads me to believe that one or more cyl. are not firing all the time therefore gas isnt burning, just getting thrown out your exhaust and you are smelling it. So its somewhere in your ignition, could be ignition module, maybe ignition coil, or possibly even your pickup inside distributor. To bad its not newer and can throw a code(check engine light) Sorry but thats a hard one, Well Merry Christmas and good luck.

Those nissan Z’s have a very commonly problem with the fuel injectors. might be related to your fuel smell too. if your injectors all turn out good, do a cylinder compression test. good luck,
