Acura Integra 2000 Won’t Start Please Help

Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Jul 24, 2011

For two days, my 2000 Acura Integra with 95,000 miles would not start unless I pressed hard on the gas pedal and then pumped it a bit. Once it got going, it was fine and would start 4 to 5 times both days. Then, this morning, the car would not start at all after being parked for about 14 hours. What could this be? I don’t think it is the battery or alternator because all of the lights come on and the windows/air work. What should I check first? I am not afraid to work on it myself and would prefer to make as many changes myself before taking it to a shop (spark plugs, etc). Does this sound like it could be a fuel pump problem or a starter problem? How would l know the difference?

And a huge thank you to everyone that answers these questions, you have saved me so many times before. Thanks in advance.

Ya sounds like fuel pump .. when you push the gas pedal or pump it your putting it into a flood mode (opening the injectors and allowing fuel to enter the combustion chamber). if the fuel pump is not holding pressure in the lines this will happen.. you could hook a fuel pressure gauge up to the fuel lines turn off the vehicle the fuel pressure will either drop all the way down or it will bleed down after an hour or so that will determine that it is a fuel pump.

If the engine is turning over then the starter is fine. If not then the starter is going out or out. If it is not starting hit the starter with a hammer a few times that will release the contacts so it will start again. I don’t know if it is turning over or not so I can’t help you more sorry.

Sort of not-a-very-big-problem ones. Probably the fuel pump. You might need to have it checked out.

I would look at the fuel pressure regulator. I had a pontiac that did this. when the car sits, if the fuel pressure regulator is bad, the fuel can drain back down to the tank causing this sort of problem.
