91 Mitsubishi Mirage 1.5L Won’t Start
Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Aug 16, 2010I have a 3rd generation Mitsubishi Mirage L4 1.5L 3-Door hatchback (its a non-interference engine, thank god). In a (half-@$$ed) attempt to fix what I thought was a timing belt that slipped (and screwed up the timing), I took off the upper timing belt cover, took the timing belt off the cam sprocket and attempted to move the sprocket over slightly…. well, needless to say, the sprocket jumped over 90 degrees (I’m an aspiring mechanic). After some research, I pulled the spark plugs, put the belt back on the sprocket and used the crank shaft pulley to manually turn the cam to the TDC mark. I then took the belt back off the cam sprocket and manually moved the crank pulley to the TDC mark, then put the belt back on the cam sprocket. This should have put the crank and cam back into alignment (as far as I know). I put the plugs back in (they all look good) and wires back on (new wires) and adjusted the distributor to a mid position.
When I turn the key and crank it now, the engine turns (without any audible knocking or anything) but wont fire. It doesn’t even seem to attempt to fire. I thought “maybe its flooded?”, so I put a battery charger on to bring the battery back up to normal and let the car sit for an hour or so. I crank it over and still nothing, not even a burp.
Any ideas? Did I completely screw up my car?
Has spark. Can smell gas.
could there be a sensor that, if bad, would prevent the ECU from delivering gas to the engine? Or inject gas at the wrong time?

Check spark, check gas, has both should start, sounds like a fuel pump
