2001 Ford Focus Problem

Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Jan 20, 2011
Below is the question about 2001 Ford Focus Problem,

Hello,
I have a Ford Focus 01, it has an engine light turn on, I took it to Auto Zone and it came up with two codes. P0301 and P0401, it tells a bunch of options for the problem but I don’t think I can check every single one. Anybody knows what could be the problem?
Code P0301:
Rich or lean air/ fuel mixture
Ignition system fault
Fuel injector fault
Engine mechanical fault
Code P0401:
Blocked passage on EGR system
Failed EGR valve
EGR solenoid faulty

Thank you!

You need to get your car to a certified mechanic. Give him the code information, and let him do his job. There are quite a few problems that need to be worked out before you just replace parts. Sometimes trying to be a do it yourself type person can be expensive. Good luck.

    Buy a new solenoid

  3. Preddysgarage says:

Pull the EGR valve and use a clothes hanger or something similar to make sure both ports are clean, for the 401 code(also could cause the 301) then check number1 cylinder spark plug and conjoining parts of the ignition system, the 301 is a misfire code on cylinder 1

Fuel injectors do clog and that would be the starting location for repair.

E.G.R. valves are a different colored horse. I would suspect clearing the injector code would also clear out the egr (they are related)

I have had a hundred computers tell me the EGR is bad when in effect they were not bad. Usually the code is attributed to a Faulty fuel delivery system (Your case a bad injector) or clogged intake manifold passages. If injector replacement does not solve egr code then a cleaning of the intake passages would be next. Do not go buy an EGR until all other options have been ruled out.

CODE P0301 check your gas cap it may not be on all the way
CODE P0401 replace the EGR Valve it may be expensive though
