1998 Cadillac DeVille Concours Starting Issues
Posted in Ignition Systems | Asked on Jun 16, 2010I have the car in front, and when I press the accelerator to the floor and start the car it will usually fire up. If do not, it will turn around for 30-40 seconds then starts and the check engine lights. I checked the light has and it tells me I have a misfire on 3 Cylinder. I changed the cable and the connector and the ignition coil, the third with the Cylinders is assigned. I changed this part twice, each for about one week, the car ran great. Then, after a week boom Gotta Give it takes place the gas to start again or misfire. Does anyone have any ideas when you are in the DFW area, how much resolve this problem? I appreciate any feedback. And for the haters, do not tell me to get rid of it please. I love my Cadi, I checked the DEX-COOL site litigation and mentioned only V6 engines.

There are One Answer for "1998 Cadillac DeVille Concours Starting Issues"
Your love for Cadi’s is undeserved! Anyway, your problem most likely involves the unwanted burning of coolant in the #3 cylinder. There is a major lawsuit against GM for improper engineering of their intake manifolds and gaskets. Also for the composition of their Dex-Cool coolant. More than 50% of their vehicles are affected. Read the “GM Litigation” web-site for more details. What might be happening is that your engine is taking in a gulp of coolant along with the fuel/air mixture. This would keep the plug from firing all the time due to interference by the unwanted coolant. Also, realize that the so-called “GAS” pedal on fuel injected cars is really the “AIR” pedal. It only regulates the amount of AIR that the engine is breathing. The fuel mixture follows suit. Therefore, be suspect of your IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. When it get dirty, it prevents the fuel mixture from blending correctly. Call your CADI dealer and ask them for the frequency of failed engine intake manifolds. Your symptoms tell me that when your engine cools off, something is leaking into the #3 cylinder requiring extra AIR to flush it out. You might get by if you have your intake manifold re-torqued. Also, when you resolve this issue, DON’T use Dex-cool anymore. Use Mercedes Benz coolant. Also, install a set of Bosch Platinum or Fusion (iridium) plugs. Your engine will gain power and mileage. Also, you are foolish if you are NOT using Mobil One in this car. The oil pump and pressure relief valves are like tinker toys!! Good Luck!!!
