Will The Knock Sensor Cause The Engine Light To Turn On

Posted in Crank, Oil and Piston
  • I have heard the knock sensor will not cause the check engine light to go on, is this true, and if so what would the real problem be?
Just wanted to add some more details. 96 maxima – I had to get the entire exhaust replaced, so there were 2 codes, 02, and knock. Fixed exhaust, so 02 code went away, now I have the knock code left. I don’t want to spend $300 to fix the knock, and then have another code come out and need to fix something else. Which is why I asked if the knock would turn the CEL on. I also heard a rumor, that the knock code may have something to do with the MAF.

the knock sensor can get damaged and it would be very probably that it would turn on the CEL,

But there are a lot of other problems that will turn on the CEL,

If you have a CEL turned on go the autozone to read the trouble codes for free it is the easiest way to find out what the problem is,

Let me qualify the knock sensor is not a check engine light code setter. (on most Nissan Models) however emissions testing the knock sensor may cause you to fail OBD2 then have to dynometer test emissions instead of just OBD2 plug and play test.
