Knock Sensors

Below is the question about Knock Sensors,

I was watching the Today Show yesterday and they had a guy on there talking about ways to save on gas. Someone asked him if you had to put premium gas in cars that said premium gas only by the gas caps. He said no, because these cars have ( knock sensors ) letting the engine know if it needs to make adjustments to make the engine to run smoother! I don’t think someone would be on a show like that and not know what they are talking about. I didn’t catch what or who he worked for. Most if not all cars built in the last ten years are pretty much computerized , making me believe he is right. Is he right?

Yes…car adjust to the fuel…BUT ,,,a car built to use premium fuel gets less mpg and less horse power when using regular

And the rest of the story is that the knock sensor retards the ignition spark to keep the engine from knocking. There goes your quick acceleration response when you step on the gas to get safely into the oncoming traffic! So, I’d put any gas into the car that didn’t cause the knock sensor to activate and reduce the performance of my engine.

Actually the TV guy is rite in Utah Chanel 2 news did the study
they found no mileage difference at all as the computer adjusts for all variances to give you the best performance you can get with whatever is in the tank
exceptions are on older cars before all these controls you tune the car with what you’re going to run Thain don’t switch back and forth especially cars with carburetors
