Knock Sensor Ford F150

Posted in Crank, Oil and Piston | Asked on Jul 6, 2010

98 f150 4.2 V6 if knock sensor is not working how would it make the truck run . mine feels like low timing and spark knocks while driving.
egr is working fine no change when unplugged i did not mention truck idles terrible has a miss on two cylinders goes away when above 2500 rpm but while at idle strong unburned gas smell at exhaust but spark knock is there when giving gas all the time i guess i am going to have to do a compression test see if i have a burnt valve but timing seems low while driving doesn’t have the power it used to it has codes 302 and 305 for missfire and p074 for lean bank 2.

the engine knocking (detonating) will either melt your pistons or breaking off big chunks off ur pistons which of course is bad so definitly change your knock sensor. the computer tries to advance the ignition for better power and mileage but the knock sensor stops it from going to far to make detonation.

Unplug the green vacuum hose with the black end from the black EGR valve located just to the Right (passengers Side) of the throttle body see if your problem goes away and let me know
