Should i wait until it cools down or just shut off the car pop the hood and put the oil?

    If you’re positive of the oil level, and know how much to add it’s perfectly fine to add it at any temperature.

    Some times oil spills on the manifold causing a fire. So if you fear you might spill some wait for it to cool. A funnel will help anyway as spilled oil on a manifold stinks.
    I don’t know why you are in such a hurry to add oil unless you are already running low and the light came on. If that is the case, wait for it to cool down at least before restarting it. Also if you wait for the oil to return to the pan and get a accurate reading then you will know how much to add. Adding too much presents its own problems.
