Misdiagnosed.
You can get knock sensor codes and have something else wrong throwing the codes.
This is like having AutoZone scan a car and tell you what to buy.
Misdiagnosed!
Sounds like there,s something else making the knock sensor code keep coming up. something that,s not throwing a code but still can be bad. ask him about that because there are things that can go bad and not throw a code.
He went with the most common cause. unfortunately, the ‘weakest link’ in the modern engine is the sensors that regulate it.
the easiest ‘quick fix’ nowadays is to replace the offending sensor
its a gamble. Spend $30 on a new sensor and an hour to install it, or spend hundreds to actually locate the problem and repair. Replacing the sensors could be the first step in the diagnosis process, and probably the cheapest step (and often the correct step in repair)
I could be the car is knocking just you cant hear it check for excess carbon excess carbon will raise the combustion ratio causing pinging. then you need either a computer flash or a top engine clean. could also be bad gas
also timing chain or belt could be wore out causing the timing to vary
a bad engine mount could set the cde
misfires, worn engine parts even a bad ground or pcm
the technician doesn’t realize that a knock code seldom is a bad knock sensor.the code says either there is a knock or there is no signal so he misdiagnosed
he just threw a part at it and called it a day
i have delt with hundreds of knock codes and only twice was it a knock sensor
