1996 subaru impreza 2.2l failed emissions because of a knock sensor. Where is the sensor located?

    the knock sensor usually goes on the cylinder head. tough job to get to. you should take it to a realiable mechanic to have it checked.

    if I’m not mistaken it fits on the side of the engine just above the oil pan on the 2.2 engine,,its not too hard to get too and replace though,,,its a round sensor,,it should have 3 wire harness that goes to it.good luck happy new years.

    sometimes computer code may lead you to the knock sensor but it could be other problems ; mass air flow sensor ,fuel pressure regulator . when the maf or fpr arenot not working properly they will throw a knock sensor code , the knock sensor is very unlikely to be the problem (unless it has a loose connection )

    Sensor should have a blue/white wire running to it.
