Below is the question about 1988 Ford Ranger 2.9 Hesitation,

Only when motor is at running temperature, there is severe hesitation and poor idle. motor wants to die, poor idle unless its not under any load. It has great vacuum pressure, fuel pressure, replaced fuel filter, map sensor engine coolant temperature sensor, cap and rotor, along with spark plugs, and an oil change..
Would this be called the idle air control nalve.. At a cold start the vehicle accelerates perfect until it reaches normal temperature.

With the rough idle, it sounds like you Air Bypass valve is bad…It’s located on the upper intake manifold by the throttle body..You didn’t say if your check engine light was on… If it’s on you need to buy the Haynes repair manual,It will tell you how to pull the codes off..I don’t think autozone does OBD I codes anymore… The manual has a chapter on it with all the codes…

    Yes, idle control valve..

It sounds like you need to remove the fuel injection manifold and replace 2 or 3 johnson rods beneath the pump fuselage cylinders.
